Typhoon update

PAGASA raises a Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal from 1 to 5 over each area in the path of a storm. The number describes the wind expected in the next 12 to 36 hours, not how far away the storm is.

• Signal 1 39–61 km/h — minimal to minor damage. Light materials may be blown loose.
• Signal 2 62–88 km/h — minor to moderate damage. Old or poorly built houses are at risk.
• Signal 3 89–117 km/h — moderate to significant damage. Travel becomes dangerous.
• Signal 4 118–184 km/h — significant to severe damage. Most structures are affected.
• Signal 5 above 185 km/h — extreme damage over a wide area.

⚠️ These are PAGASA's own signal levels. They are not the same as the Saffir–Simpson hurricane categories used elsewhere, and the two must never be read as equivalents.
